Interview with John Goss, Part One: Meeting Kondo Sensei
March 18th, 2008
Ted Howell: Goss Sensei, when did you become interested in Daito- ryu?
Well, actually my interest in Daito-ryu began when I started reading Stanley Pranin’s articles about the origin of aikido, back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, in the Aiki News Magazine. The more I read about the history and lineage of Daito-ryu, about Sokaku Takeda and Tokimune Sensei and what O’Sensei had studied for many years, the more my interest in the origins and development of aiki grew.
Welcome to Daito-ryu Online
John Goss — January 13th, 2008
Welcome to Daito-ryu Online. My name is John Goss and I am a direct student of Katsuyuki Kondo Sensei in Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu. I have been involved in budo for nearly four decades. My school in Baltimore, Maryland hosted several of the first seminars in mainline Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu conducted by Kondo Sensei starting in 1997.
I wanted to create this site as my contribution to help fellow students interested in Daito-ryu and as a way to help spread accurate information about this wonderful art in the United States. We have teamed with Aikido Journal and are able to offer an abundance of information on Daito-ryu aikijujutsu from AJ’s extensive archives in addition to our content. We will be constantly updating the website with new information and encourage the submission of blog commentary by anyone in the Daito-ryu community and those interested in the art. We welcome your announcements, information on history, personal experiences, reviews, or any other content relevant to Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu.
